Hi Everybody! This is Karen with Wellness Works NW and I am excited to be in the month of June! We are in Phase 2 of coming back from COVID-19 stay at home order now so everything is getting better. One thing I have learned in life is that teamwork is essential. When you form a team you can get anything done! My Seahawks are coming back this year and I am so excited! Its going to be a little different this year but that is ok! We are going all the way!

Major league baseball and the NBA are coming back too! The only bad news is that our Cowlitz Black Bears will not be coming back this year but they will be back in 2021 and they are going to be coming to Forever Fit Gym because that is where they like to workout. I want to applaud the owners of the Black Bears for making such a hard decision! For 10 years we have been playing ball but it was so important to protect those young players.

That is the thing about teamwork! When you have a team, the team has a goal or mission and they stick to it. I learned this in the army. We put all kinds of people together and made things work. These were people from all different parts of the country, different colors and we still made it happen!

When you are making changes to your wellness plan you need to put together your team. You can put your kids on your team so they can cheer you on. Put your wife or husband or your best friend on your team so you have someone who can hold you accountable. Just don’t be afraid of teamwork because it is a very good thing! The same concepts that we apply to sports teams can be applied to your wellness! Just find a buddy that can hold you accountable.

Even though we are still staying home you can workout at home. But it must be done. It is important to work your back. A lot of people don’t realize it is important because they think no one can see your back but it is very important to not skip your back.

Today we are going to workout with a chair, you don’t have to use weights to work your back but you can if you want to. We are going to do a side row on the chair. We are also going to do leg lifts on the chair. Another exercise you can do without weights are deadlifts without weights to strengthen your posture. All of these exercises are very good for your back. Another idea is, if you have a band or a towel you can have someone hold onto one end of it and pull back to strengthen your back.

Strong back and strong core are very important just don’t forget that hinge when you sit back for your squats so you protect your back.

Make sure to email me to tell how things are going! Let’s talk about your back! Remember teamwork is essential!
