Hey Guys! This is Karen with Wellness Works NW and I am so glad you are here. Thank you so much.

When you have skin problems can be very frustrating. I remember in high school I would buy Oxy-10 and spreading it on my face to try to help my skin. It would never fail, whenever I had a speech or something important happening, I would get a huge zit on the end of my nose. I am sure people didn’t notice as much as I did, they have their own things going on, but I could never think of anything other than the thought that people were staring at that zit!

The skin often tells us what is happening on the inside of ourselves. People with chronic illness they can have many skin issues. Especially with people who have things like psoriatic arthritis and similar diagnosis’s. Today I want to talk about Scleroderma

Scleroderma is a chronic illness where you have too much cologen in your skin and this causes issues with your skin and connective tissue, where your immune system will actually fight against you. Scleroderma is an autoimmune disease. They say that it is common when you have one autoimmune disease that you may have several co-occuring diagnosis’s. Scleroderma is not fun, but you can deal with it.

There are 2 different kinds of Scleroderma: Localized and Systemic Scleroderma. When you have Localized Scleroderma you might have thick oval patches on your body or thick lines on your body depending on you it affects you. You can get Localized Scleroderma anywhere you have skin. It is important to go to the doctor when you see things like this on your body. There are all kinds of meds the doctor can give you to help you deal with Scleroderma. There is pain and discomfort that comes with Scleroderma and you will have to try many different things until you find something that can help you.

Diet and exercise are important when you have Scleroderma. One of the most important things you can do is make a Wellness Plan. I want you to make sure to stretch and find the right exercises you can do so that you stay flexible. This is especially important with Systemic Scleroderma that will cause hardening of the connective tissue because you want to try to keep that as flexible as you can.
