The following article is an editorial and is based largely on opinion.

Good Day Everyone,

I hope you are all doing fine and well. After reading through numerous articles I have decided to write about the importance of masking and the stories of people who have survived COVID-19.

First of all, I cannot stress the importance of wearing a mask when out in public and when it is not possible to socially distance at the recommended guidelines of staying six feet apart.

The masks protect others from being exposed from COVID-19, as it has been proven (so far,) to be an airborne pathogen. When other people wear masks, it helps to protect YOU from possible exposure.

This leads me to share an example how COVID-19 can debilitate young people who are in their 20s. Severe cases of COVID-19 can cause lasting lung damage that may necessitate surgery or organ transplants.

You may be thinking, “Who is at risk?” Short answer is, we all are.

There are also many perspectives shared by survivors of COVID-19
The long term care that many need as they struggle to breathe normally, fighting PTSD, and putting the pieces of their lives back together again.

We are the only country who has politicized this issue. Other countries, including so called Third World Countries, such as Africa, have been strongly proactive in getting the resources and care their citizens need, and taking precautions to prevent the spread. As it stands right now, we are in worse shape COVID-19 wise, than the rest of the world.

As a hearing impaired person, being out and about has been made more difficult because my understanding of speech is obscured by masks. Most people are ok with moving their masks away from their mouths so that I can see them talk. Occasionally I will meet a person who is not comfortable about this…while this is frustrating, I understand… we just find another solution to communicate.

My point? If I can overcome my personal challenges, so can you.
All of our lives literally depend,on it.
