Hi Everyone! I wanted to share with you are product I found while Karen and I were waiting in line at Walmart. I try hard to not notice all the odds and ends and treats while we are waiting, but I was hungry and I was eye-balling the end-cap with the jerky on it and was surprised to see a jerky made of turkey. Now, I have tried turkey jerkies before, and I didn’t like them, but I felt drawn to at least read the label. I am an avid label-reader…and at least it is better than reading the tabloids.

I am picky about my turkey and what had my attention is something I had never seen on other turkey jerkies…herbs. Turkey can be so boring without them. I don’t like my turkey sweet so the flavors I had seen in the past did not entice me. I liked the package. It was attractive, I liked the colors they had used; I like colors and I like white space. It said all the right things: 11 g of protein, no preservatives, no added MSG, no added nitrates all this made me turn it over and check out the sodium levels. This is the catch. Generally there is tons of sugar and salt in jerky but this one blew my mind! When I saw 290 mg of sodium and 5 g of sugars and then the price was less than $3…I thought I am going to give this a try. If I don’t like it, I am only out $3.

So a threw it on the counter and with my other items.

When we got home, we were hot and tired and I didn’t want to make lunch so I ripped open the bag and we tried it. Karen doesn’t eat a lot of jerky. But she did try a bite and she thought it was pretty good. I thought it tasted good too. Not so good to absent mindedly eat the whole bag, which is why I don’t buy jerky very often, but enough to enjoy it until I had had my serving. I also was surprised at how filling it was. Karen and I both agreed this would be a great snack to bring on a road trip.

For a few days, I kept thinking about Lorrissa’s Herb Roasted Turkey Strips and decided that I would see if they had a website to check out their other products.

I found they had Beef Sticks, Medley Bars and Strips & Cuts.

I probably won’t buy the Beef Sticks. I try hard to eat mindfully and I can swallow several beef sticks without being mindful, very easily, plus they have more fat and less protein than the other products Lorissa’s offers. I am sure they are delicious and maybe a good choice for someone, but that is not me.

The Medley Bars look interesting to me. They are blends of dried fruit and jerkies. They have 10 g of protein per serving and about 9-10 g of sugar and 200-250 mg of sodium in each bar and they have interesting names like: Blueberry Fusion, Pineapple Teriyaki and Apple Cinnamon. I like to try different things like this and I think it would be great to keep one in my bag for if I am running around town and forget to eat or need to overcome a not-so-healthy craving.

The Strips and Cuts products look delicious. Lorissa’s has 3 beef flavors and 1 chicken and 1 turkey flavor and they are all reasonably priced. All the beef products are grass-fed and the poultry is raised without antibiotics. They range from 9 to 11 g of protein per serving, 5 to 8 g of sugar, and their sodium levels are moderate for jerkies, however if sodium is an issue for you, you might want to stay with Lorrissa’s Herb Roasted Turkey Strips or maybe the Original Beef Steak Strips.

Lorrissa’s Strips & Cuts Flavors:

  • Original Beef Steak Strips
  • Korean Recipe Barbecue Seasoned Beef Steak Strips
  • Ginger Teriyaki Chicken Cuts
  • Herb Roasted Turkey Cuts
  • Szechuan Peppercorn Beef Steak Strips

Where can you buy Lorrissa’s snacks: Amazon, Walmart and most Food Stores. On her website Lorrissa says she started her company out of love for simple ingredients, delicious recipes and nourishing snacks. Maybe if you want to try something new, Lorissa’s Kitchen might have a snack you like.

I know that I am going to make sure to try some of the other flavors. Yum!
