Several months ago our insurance company sent us a flyer telling us about the Mango Health App. I like apps and I think they can be very helpful. I have used a few wellness apps but hadn’t really fell in love with them. But I like this one.

The Mango Health app is a great tool to help you reach your wellness goals. It has been very helpful to me to remind me to take my medications and supplements. The app even keeps count of how many pills I have and reminds me to to get refills. It has also sent me articles about my medications so I can be up to date on my knowledge of them and be aware of any medications that won’t play well together.

Mango Health can also remind you to check your blood sugar, if you are diabetic or pre-diabetic.

The Mango Health app has helped me reach my water intake goals as well.

When I first set up my app there was a section on exercise and even on food intake. I am going to be honest with you, I don’t use those sections but if you have the patience for them they might be great. When I first checked out the app it offered walking as the only form of exercise and as with most iPhones the step counter leaves something to be desired and walking is not my preferred way to exercise anyway, however when I contacted them about it they thanked me and said they would add other options, like strength training, when they were ready to expand the app.

One helpful tool they offer is allowing you to set up care recipients. Karen G Clemenson has found this helpful because she helps me remember to take my meds on time and encourage my other health goals. The Mango Health app reminds her to do these things.

Each time you reach your wellness goal you earn points. These points bring you closer to being part of a drawing for incentives. The first week I used this app I got a $5 credit for Amazon…which was quickly used up!

What I like about this app is that I set my goals based on what I want and the app reminds me of those goals. Monthly they also offer helpful articles to encourage wellness. If you want to follow their Facebook page you can get even more encouragement.

…Oh and did I mention it is free…

Overall, I really like this app. It is pretty and it has helped me become more regular with my medication and water intake. I can’t say it is the only app that I use because it leaves something to be desired for exercise if you prefer to focus on strength training and stretching over cardio; Karen has found that her Fitbit is much more accurate as a step counter. I can’t rate the food intake section because I am just not the person that is going to do that. I still use my Apple Health app to keep track of my personal stats like: weight, blood pressure, my menstrual cycle, et al, because Mango Health app is not set up for that.

When it comes down to it, you have to find the app or apps that work best for you and maybe the Mango Health app can be one of yours.
