Hey Everybody! It’s Karen with Wellness Works NW! Remember when we were kids in school and we would outline our hands on a piece of construction paper and the next thing you know we had a turkey. So I am not much of an artist but the thing is, it made you happy. It was Thanksgiving and you were happy. That is so important. Sometimes when things get really tough you have to make the decision to be happy and thankful.

Look at your life and look at all the great people you have in your life. You should be happy and you should practice being happy. The thing about choosing to be happy it, it takes away all the negative energy from things. Negative things are going to happen; just look at the news. But just think about your personal surroundings and the intimate people you have with you right there and be happy about that.

I try to start my day with 5 things I am super thankful for and it helps me position myself and my mind for the day, no matter what. Before I hit all those 10,000 emails, and phone calls and voice mails, I think about what I am thankful for. I am thankful for being here, in this country, yes we have our difficulties but this is the most perfect place for me to be. I appreciate my lovely wife, my friends and my clients that always let me know how appreciative they are to be working out with me and taking advice from me. It is very important to not let everything that is happening with COVID-19 get you. I know it can be negative, but you have to remain strong because you have people who are depending on you and you can do it.

Now this Thanksgiving we won’t be able to be with friends and family that are outside our home but we can always Zoom, there Skype, there are different ways to connect. Sometimes those things are even better than being there in person. So as you are thinking about this holiday better by being even more grateful.

There are some of us out there that are wearing a mask and then there are some people out there that can’t wear a mask or they’re hearing impaired or they have some other issue with the mask. Imagine being hearing impaired and wearing the mask and everyone else is wearing the mask and you can’t communicate because you can’t read their lips. Think about that and how maybe you need to be a little more thankful for your life and a little more mindful that someone else may have a hearing impairment or some issue with wearing a mask (people with PTSD, autism, COPD and several other issues often can’t wear the mask without suffering physically or mentally). We don’t know everyone’s story so if we need to be kinder to others. Always assume the positive because we don’t know other people’s stories. We have to do this together and I know we can do it.

I understand the frustration. We are all getting to where we are getting fed up with the COVID-19 situation but we know that a vaccine is coming, there may be 2 or 3 vaccines coming. Should you choose to use a vaccine eventually things will be more easy to live with. This is positive. We can make our situation lighter by being more positive while we use this time to get to know our closest family members better. You can still text and use other ways to keep in touch with other family members because of technology there are many ways to keep in touch and some of them are even more fun that face to face visits.

This is a wonderful time and I want you to be happy and grateful. I want you to be grateful for your health and think about how you can make your health better. It’s time to exercise!

Those wonderful triceps…the back of your arms. You really have to work those puppies. So I want you to kind of bend over a little bet, hold your weights in each hand and bring your weights up and back. Boom! Notice how we are not bringing the hands too far forward because we really want to get the triceps. This exercise is called a Tricep Kick-Back. Do about 10 of those. Great!

When it comes to squats, there are all kinds. I tell people to find the squat that works for you. You can mix them up a bit too. So the Split Squat is a little different. You are standing here you have your weights or milk cartons or whatever. You step forward and over to the side and lunge into the squat. Bring your weights down as you step forward and lean forward. Do about 10 of those. When you are doing this you can really feel your entire body get into this.

Now The Single Arm Carry is very simple. You have 1 weight in your hand and you walk forward. At the end of your pace, switch the weight to your other hand and walk back. Keep this up for about 10 reps. Take your time. You are moving. You are getting your heart rate up. You have a little bit of resistance. These are things that you can do right at home and even create a little competition and fun with the people at your home. Make sure to create some fun! I know you can do this!

I am sending you all kinds of positive prayers & positive vibes. I will see you very very soon! If you need help with your Wellness Plan please give me a call or text at 360-447-8061
